Short Husky Hikes around the farm

Short Husky Hikes around the farm are great add-ons to a basic farm tour so make the day of one of the dogs that has caught your eye and ask if there is time for this fun addition to a standard farm tour (or book the hike ahead of time). Oldies, in particular, really benefit from the chance to get our, year-round, but all dogs appreciate a break in their normal routines!

'Free-running with the pups
Agility Course Fun
'GEE HAW' Maze
2km Boundary Trail
Local Ridge Walk
'Morning Run' Trail

Any of these options can be added on, at short notice, to a standard farm visit if we have staff and dogs available to play with you. You will then just pay the overall price of the product you have chosen since the price of the farm tour is included within the price of these hikes. (In other words, if you have pre-paid for just a farm tour, we will simply sub-tract that from the price of your selected walk).

FYI: Most of these products are possible year-round, but some may need snowshoes to be hired, too, in winter. Our recommendations for summer include the GEE HAW maze, (spot our mystery Geocache), the puppy agility trail, the autumn training loop and a beautiful 2km ridge walk that extends out in the centre of the marsh where herds of grazing reindeer can often be spotted. In winter and spring the puppy agility trail or our 2km boundary loop can be walked without snowshoes.

We will be happy to show you how to harness your dog and attach yourself to him or her by a skijoring line, (our dogs are not trained to walk to heel on a lead!) and then to hike with you through the forests. Depending on the age of the pups and the hike that you are interested in, it might be possible for some of the pups to accompany us off the lead on all but the puppy agility trail.

Further afield, there are the trails described in the 'Hidden Hetta Hikes' section which take between 2 hours and a day to complete and then we have a variety of multi-day hiking options also available. Please contact us for further information.

FREE-RUNNING WITH THE PUPS

For those lucky enough to be visiting when we have pups at the right age for free-running, it is always a lot of fun to end a farm tour with a free-running section with the pups.

Available: Whenever the pups are at the right age.
Duration: c. 1 hour including farm tour
Price: Adult €20 Child €15, Family €50 (<5, inc. up to 2 adults)

Take the Oldies for a walk!

We have an accompanied version of our 2km walk below, but this 'oldies' walk is more targeted at people who have visited us a few times, are based locally for a while and who are quite happy to just take the oldies for a walk on their own. We will, of course, get you going by sorting out harnesses, skijoring lines and getting you started on the correct trails but after that, it will be just you and the dogs. Please don't expect this to be a fast walk - it will need to be dictated by the speed of the dogs and you will need to be focused on what they need.

Available: Year-round.
Duration: c. 1.5 hours including farm tour
Price: Adults €20, Children €15, Families €50 (<5, inc. up to 2 adults)

GEE HAW maze training.

Taking part in a GEE HAW maze training session or a puppy agility course trail adds c.30 mins to your standard farm tour program. In the GEE HAW product you can either take part in a free-running session with young pups or learn how we use skijoring lines to train our lead dogs to turn right or left.

Available: Summer Only
Duration: 1 hour 15 mins including 40min farm tour.
Price: Adults €20, Children €15, Families €50 (< 5, inc. up to 2 adults)

2km Boundary Training Loop

Our farm boundary trail is generally accessible year round. It is the trail we first use in autumn training and we keep it open all winter so that the oldies can still get out and have some fun on the sleigh from time to time. Walking the boundary route with a dog of your choice will add up to an hour to your overall farm tour.

Available: Year-round.
Duration: c. 1.5 hours including farm tour
Price: Adults €25, Children €15, Families €60 (<5, inc. up to 2 adults)

Local Ridge Walk

There is a beautiful 2km 'ridge' walk that extends out, on a decent path, from nearby the farm into the centre of the marsh we use in our 6km winter safari. At that point, the path peters out and you might spot an unexpecting herd of reindeer grazing in the distance. Going out and back will add up to an hour to your overall farm tour but this trail is only accessible in winter by ski or snowshoe. Berry picking and mushroom hunting are great fun on this path in the autumn season. Walking the local ridgeline trail with a dog of your choice will add up to an hour to your overall farm tour.

Available: Year-round but in winter, you will need to also hire snowshoes (€10 more per person).
Duration: c. 1.5 hours including farm tour
Price: Adults €30, Children €20, Families €75 (<5, inc. up to 2 adults)

Long Walk Home / Our 'Morning Running Trail'

To the north lies another highground trail which is actually part of the route the guides call their 'long walk home'. This is a very varied trail including a pituresque quad track, a trail path on a forest ridge, some local routes and a fairly wet marsh section. Most clients choose to go out and back to avoid a wet marsh crossing on the longer circular route. However, for the more adventurous, the circular route - which used to be Anna and Pasi's morning running trail - is a really nice trail hike very close to the farm.

Available: Year-round but in winter, you will need to also hire snowshoes (€10 more per person).
Duration: c. 2 hours including farm tour
Price: Adults €40, Children €30, Families €120 (<5, inc. up to 2 adults)
