2016-17 SAFARI AVAILABILITY

Please use this page (which is updated c. once per week) to check space availability on our 2016-17 multiday safaris and husky-guide training weeks before trying to book!

More up to date information can be gained by contacting us but this page will at least steer you away from the weeks that are already fully booked.

NB: We state the 'normal' starting and ending days of the week for the longer safaris, but please note that we can be more flexible and even potentially offer additional starts in April.

5-DAY WILDERNESS SAFARI: Bookable also as a 7 or 8-DAY ARCTIC MUSHING PACKAGE

Normal number of participants: 6. (Can be larger for private bookings).
Possible between Jan 8th and c. end April.
Generally run each week from Sunday to Thursday

NB: The full board 8-day package is priced to be the best value since we believe that this is how clients get the most from their safari experience.

Those booking the all-inclusive 7 or 8-day packages will arrive at the farm on the day prior to the start of the tour (airport shuttles can be arranged). The 7-day package ends on the day after the safari returns to the farm. The optional free day within the 8-day package is normally scheduled at the end of the safari so that people have time to learn more about the adventure options available to them on this day. This is not, however, set in stone.

Those booking ground-only safaris need to arrive at the farm by 10am on the first day and the tour will be over once we have returned to the homestead on Day 5 and had a farewell coffee whilst handing kit back in.

NB: The first dates quoted in the tables below are for the tour booked as a ground-only 5-day Wilderness Safari; the second, when the tour is booked as an all-inclusive (8-day arctic mushing) package. A 7-day package booking is also possible.

If you come at this time, be ready for 'Early Winter Trail Blazing'.

ie. long days, tough conditions including some sledding in the dark and clients are very likely to need to work hard to help the dogs on the hills. The trails should be marked for use by others by the start of Feb. and they start to become easier after that. Until then, however, we are making our own tracks each week and there is little time in the evenings to hang out and relax. This is full-on expedition mode.

Those visiting at this time will do so in the 'Frosty Depths of the Arctic Winter'.

ie. long cold days & variable trails. Can be very physical and in many years the coldest weeks are in February so this is full-on arctic mode. Please do not book to come before the end of this period if you have any heightened risk factors relating to cold injuries (if, for instance, you are diabetic / on beta blockers etc).

Crystalising Snow at this time, means that the Trails Solidify.

Dogs can pull more easily so the days on the sled become easier and shorter. Physical demand on clients should be, therefore, slightly less.

Spring Awakens and our capacity to offer additional customised tours, increases.

This is the time to come if you have any physical or medical challenges that make cold weather dangerous since both the trails and the surrounding terrain consolidate and for a few short weeks, you can move freely with the only downside being that there are sometimes icy weeks interspersed. The main benefit of sledding at this time is that the evenings are long and there is, therefore, a chance to enjoy spending plenty of time with the dogs and relaxing in the evenings.

3-DAY TAIGA TOUR / TAIGA TOUR + Package

Normal number of participants: 6

If you are interested in this tour, please consider mushing in April since otherwise, we are quite restricted in the number of 3-day tours we offer through the season.

It is only possible for us to run EITHER a 5-day OR one or two 3-day tours on any given week between 28th December and c. end April since we have only one set of dogs reserved for longer tours and the older, younger and short-haired dogs are restricted to running shorter tours. When running, the 3-day tours generally run Thu - Sat. although other dates may also be possible depending on availability.

We don't advertise dates for the 3-day tours until we have a direct request and confirmed booking. Hence, please get in touch directly to see if there is a chance that we can accommodate you. If there IS a tour listed with places available on it, click through to our 'how to book' page to work through the easy booking process.

2-DAY POLAR NIGHT TOURS & NORTHERN LIGHTS NIGHT TOURS

Normal number of participants: 2 - 6
Possible between c. mid-Dec and c. end April.
These tours are essentially run on demand, when we have capacity.

NB: Once we have taken bookings for a specific tour, we then list those dates as 'having spaces available' and we will then try to fill these specified dates prior before offering alternative dates, particularly within a given week, because of the staffing resources required per tour. For other date possibilities, please enquire.

We provisionally schedule these tours for Thu - Fri but it also possible - particularly outside the busiest weeks / for those tours utilising the traditional farm kota - to run them on other days.

FYI We tend to offer either the shorter or longer version of the Northern Lights Night Tour only when folk genuinely can't make it to Hetta in time to take part in the start of a standard 2-day polar night since the overnight safaris put the same resource demands on us regardless of their length and we really only advertise these alternative options to make an overnight tour possible for those for whom it would otherwise be impossible.

PLEASE BOOK EARLY to avoid disappointment! The peak periods fill quickly as soon as we start to answer emails for the following season. If you see that you have missed your ideal spot, think about April when there is generally sufficient capacity to put on additional tours to those currently listed, if demand is high enough.
